My name is Karis, and here I am, writing from Home Base. My sweet little town in my sweet little world in free, wealthy Canada. I'm hoping to be taking off on a great number of adventures within the next two years. I'm going to be trekking all around the globe. I'll be setting foot on continents I've never been on before. My English ears will be tuckered out and my English brain will be fried by the end of each day, as I travel the world.
I want to report back often. I don't want to forget a thing, and I invite you to come along with me. I love to write, but I also love to experience. I've only got a few days on earth and then I'll be signing out for GOOD. So while I'm here, while I'm on land, I plan to make the most of it and keep the memories and lessons in a way that can be remembered by others someday. I also want to go back and write about experiences that are fading from my memory. There will be memoirs from a few years back, along with the regular log of my present adventures.
Assuming I'll live to a ripe old age, I've got about 80 years left. Maybe more, maybe less. The point is, there is a lot of world to be explored, there are a lot of people to meet, there are a lot of lessons to be learned, and there's lots of work to be done. Whether I travel to learn, to explore, to enjoy, to work, to witness, or to teach, I know I'm immortal until God calls me Home.
I'm choosing Psalm 139 as my go-to passage. It'll be my 'theme,' I suppose, as I journey out into the world to see what God has in store. It seems to describe traveling and experiencing life in the most perfect way.
O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.
You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I'm far away.
You see me when I travel and when I rest at home.
You know everything I do.
You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.
You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great to understand!
I can never escape from your Spirit!
I can never get away from your presence!
If I go up to heaven, you are there;
if I go down to the grave, you are there.
If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans,
even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.
Lord-willing, I'll be boarding the wings of the morning soon, and I won't stop moving until my life's trip is over. If Heaven is my home, and it's also my final destination, then what's to worry about? I've got time to spend, might as well spend it doing something worthwhile.
Whether I'm writing from a plane, typing in a bus, scribbling in a van, blogging from a hotel room, or journaling here from my familiar room at my familiar Home Base, it's going to count. Experiences from the eastern and western hemisphere, from North and South America, from here, there, and everywhere- they're all coming together here.
And someday, when I am physically unable to move and am restricted to a single space, I will read through them all and see the whole story. The great work of art that has been my life, all thanks to God my Father.
Godspeed!
